WORKS  -- Work Opportunities for Rural Kansas will help farmers, ranchers and their families find off-farm employment.  Along with other forms of assistance, WORKs Employment Specialists meet with individuals to assist in developing employment plans that assess skills and strengths, locate jobs in your area, and work with colleges and trade schools.  To see if you qualify, contact a WORKs employment specialist in Hays, Topeka or Manhattan.  See Mrs. Newell for the names and addresses of these specialists.

SER Corporation – Securing permanent employment and training for seasonal farm workers in Kansas.  SER Corporation’s goal is to find permanent year round employment for migrant and seasonal farm workers in Kansas.  They help you do this by supporting you in occupational and basic skills training.  If you have worked in feedlots, farms, ranches, grain elevators, green houses or have done field work in the last 2 years, you may qualify if you meet certain income guidelines.  Complete the pre-application and mail it to the SER office nearest you.  There are application forms in Mrs. Newell’s office.

People in Action -- after 6 months of training, you could be working with street children in Africa.  The training sessions are in Massachusetts, Michigan & California.  If you are interested in this opportunity, call 1-630-415-5483.  For more information, go to www.iicdmichigan.org or www.humana.org
