Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC)
    This scholarship program offers students the opportunity to earn their degree and receive valuable leadership and management skills while enjoying the benefits of an exciting career. The basic requirements are:
    • Be a U.S. Citizen
    • Be at least 16 years of age, but not older than 23 by June 30th
    • Complete high school/equivalent certificate
    • Take the ACT or SAT test prior to deadline and receive the minimum scores listed:

        ACT Math = 21, ACT English = 22;
        SAT Math = 520, SAT Verbal = 530
    Selected applicants receive:
        1. full tuition & other financial benefits worth up to $180,000
        2. $250 - $400 monthly tax-free allowance
    May apply for Navy or Nurse Corpse.

Pony Express Scholarship Essay
This essay contest will award 17 scholarships. Rules include:
     Topic must be “Compare and contrast the present Pony Express re-ride with the original Pony Express of 1860.”
     Provide a list of information sources
     Be limited to a minimum of 300 or maximum of 500 words
     Applications are due March 12, 2008
Application forms are in Mrs. Newell’s office.

Newman University Occupational Therapy Assistant Program
    The Occupational Therapy Assistant is an allied health profession that many students interested in science, education or psychology may find appealing as a career choice. A strong employment outlook is expected through 2014 with 95% of graduates able to secure positions within 6-8 weeks post graduation. Median starting salaries were 438,430 in 2004. The Newman OTA education program is the only one in the state. They accept new students each January.     KSU has scheduled several spring semester events for seniors. They are:

Kansas State University – for men only
    Acacia is an organization founded on the pursuit of knowledge and leadership. In that spirit, Acacia is awarding 1 leadership scholarship in amount of $1,000, and 2 in amount of $500 each to incoming male freshmen at KSU. Scholarship winners will be selected on the basis of merit as displayed in an application form. These applications must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2008. Applications are in Mrs. Newell’s office.

    Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship is for incoming freshmen who are “balanced.” These are men demonstrating outstanding excellence in all aspects of scholastics and extracurricular activities. The applicant is not bound to future membership of Sigma Phi Epsilon or even the Kansas State Greek System. Application deadline is April 15, 2008, and forms are available in the counselor’s office. Scholarships are 1=$1,000, 1=$500, 2=$250.

Carrico Implement in Beloit, Lincoln & Hays, KS is hosting a “Career Information Seminar” on January 14th. They are recruiting new employees, and the purpose of this event is to present information to help students make an informed decision as to whether a career at Carrico Implement would be a good choice for them. In addition to several displays and demonstrations, they will give you a look at some typical work scenarios. Students and parents are invited to attend the meal at 6:30, followed by the program at 7:30. Please RSVP by December 23rd.
