Scholarship Information:

 

GPACAC – The Great Plains Association of College Admission Counseling is a 3-state/regional organization serving high school counselors and college admissions professionals in the states of Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.  They are offering six $1,000 scholarships for students graduating from high school in May/June 2008.  Two winners from each GPACAC member state will receive the 1-time award.  Application is online at http://www.gpacac.net  Scholarship questions may be directed to Andrew Wiemer at awiemer@drury.edu or (417) 873-3653.  Deadline is February 29th.

 

The Greater Salina Community Foundation has scholarships available through 21 different funds for area high school seniors.  Among them are:

        The Wendy Ann Koch Memorial Scholarship – due March 31st

        The Mary Olson & Viola Olson Gustafson Scholarship – for students planning to attend Cloud County Community College and work toward a degree in nursing or another medical field

        Alma Olson and Michael T. Olson Scholarship is for students currently attending or planning to attend North Central Kansas Technical College working toward a degree in the building trades

College Information:

 

Fort Scott Community College is hosting a John Deere TECH training facility “Open House” on Friday, February 15th from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.  The John Deere TECH Program is a 5-semester program designed to upgrade the technical skills and professionalism of new John Deere service technicians, preparing them to excel in today’s high-tech, fast-paced field of agricultural mechanization – a career path with excellent employment opportunities.  If you have questions about the program of FSCC, please visit:  www.jdpowerup.com

 

Kansas State University is recruiting for their women’s Rowing Team.  K-State’s Rowing puts all the benefits and resources of a Division I Athletic Department at their students’ disposal – which includes free supplemental academic support in addition to free medical coverage, free competition travel, and free entry to all K-State events.  K-State Rowing even has scholarships available to 1st-year scholarships available to 1st-year athletes having no rowing experience.  Senior women who are 5’9” or taller are encouraged to schedule an official visit.

 

Contest:

 

The Kansas Department of Transportation is sponsoring the program, “Sobriety Rocks” which utilizes music aimed at underage listeners.  The song encourages students to forego alcohol until age 21.  You are encouraged to visit the web site www.sobrietyrocksks.net for downloadable videos and songs from last year and this year.  The site also has contest registration information as well as information links.
