CC High School: Academics

2008 Assessment and Accreditation Results

USD 224 Performs Very Well

By Dave Roberts

Your USD 224 schools remain fully accredited by the State of Kansas. Attendance, graduation and drop-out rates, highly qualified staff, and state assessment scores have met or exceeded requirements.

The district has recently learned that all grades have met or exceeded the standards set by the Kansas State Department of Education in assessments covering reading and mathematics. These two test scores determine whether a school has met adequate yearly progress as required by No Child Left Behind.

The district wants to concentrate on meeting these math and reading scores because we want to be recognized as a fully accredited school district. As the adequate yearly progress scores rise each year, this goal is a challenging one. Remember, everyone is tested. That means students with exceptionalities, minorities, everyone. This year the following goals had to be met in Kansas:

Mathematics: 74% (grade school students) and 65% (high school students) had to score at the proficient or above level.

Reading:  76% (grade school students) and 72% (high school students) had to score at the proficient or above level.

Clifton-Clyde students have typically been well above these minimum scores. However, keep in mind that these minimums go up every year until (under current law) 100% of students must meet the proficient score.

Science and Social Studies were tested this year as well. This was a new test and the first year of data.

Clifton-Clyde students who were tested earned 14 of a possible 14 Standards of Excellence in math and Reading.
