State Assessment Results
By Dave Roberts
Last spring students took the Kansas reading and math assessments. Reading and math were given to grades 3 through 8 and one grade at the high school. Buildings and grades across the state that excel in their results earn Stardards of Excellence from the Kansas State Department of Education.
Clifton-Clyde students did very well on the assessments, achieving 14 out of 14 possible Standards of Excellence in math and reading. All three buildings also earned a Building SOE in both subjects. Last year the district earned 13 of 14 SOE's.
In addition, this year's 9th grade was recognized with a Challenge Award for its performance on the math assessment. as 8th graders. Only 115 of these awards are given state wide.
Writing tests were also given to selected grades. The writing test will be revised before it is given again in 2009.
The state assessments are one way to measure academic progress. They measure competency in a subject. These tests also help determine whether or not our school meets Adequate Yearly Progress as mandated by No Child Left Behind.
Congratulations to the teachers and students of USD 224!
