CCHS KAY Club Hosts Unit Conference
by Keri Feight
The KAY Club at CCHS hosted a Unit Conference on February 12th. The Unit Conference is designed to focus on club leadership at the local level in addition to developing teamwork as everyone participates in a conference service project. The conference began with an opening session where the KAY State Director, Cheryl Gleason, addressed all delegates. Entertainment for the opening session was provided by the CCHS Cheerleaders. Speakers for the conference included Beth Bergstrom, Vanessa Tiemeyer, and Shella Thomas who presented information on the National Down Syndrome Society’s Buddy Walk and Gary LaGrange who started an organization in Manhattan called “Help Us Learn, Give Us Hope”. The conference ended with everyone participating in a service project in which delegates made Valentine’s Day cards for children at the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City in honor of Blade Winter. Schools attending this year’s conference were Pike Valley High School, Valley Heights High School, Republic County High School, Susan B. Anthony Middle School in Manhattan, and Junction City High School.
