Gates Millennium Scholars
Students who have significant financial need and have demonstrated leadership skills are prospective candidates for the 2010 Gates Millennium Scholars Program. The process requires applicants to complete the application form and to have a nominator who is an educator and a recommender who is familiar with the applicant’s leadership and community service record. 1,000 students will be selected based on the following eligibility criteria includes:
- African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American
- Cumulative 3.3 grade point average
- Demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities
- Meet the Fell Pell Grant eligibility criteria (as determined by the FAFSA)
- Completed forms and met the January 11, 2010 deadline
GMS has opened the on-line scholarship application at www.gmsp.org.
KFC Colonel’s Scholars
The KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program is dedicated to assisting students with financial need (up to $5,000 per year) who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a public institution within their legal state of residence. Eligibility criteria includes:
Ø Having a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher
Ø Enrolling in an in-state college (2- or 4-year) or university no later than 9/30/10
Ø Pursuing a bachelor’s degree
Scholarship applications are online at www.kfcscholars.org between December 1,
2009 – February 10, 2010.
Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aide (after January 1, 2010) , or estimate their financial need at www.act.org/fane.
