USD 224 Earns "Highest Performing Academic School District in Kansas" Award

by Brian Pekarek

In November, the USD 224 Clifton-Clyde School District earned the Kansas House of Representatives Award for being the "Highest Performing Academic School District in Kansas."  All of the district's schools placed in the top 5% of schools in the state in both math and reading on their 2009 Kansas State Assessments.  Clifton-Clyde High School was the 14th highest performing high school in Kansas.  In addition to this, Clifton-Clyde Middle School was the second highest performing middle school in Kansas.  Finally, Clifton-Clyde Grade School was the #1 highest performing grade school in the Kansas.  All of the schools received the "Governor's Achievement Awards for Academic Excellence" for being in the top 5% of schools in Kansas.  All three schools could possibly be nominated for the National Blue Ribbon Schools in February 2010 (Kansas can nominate only 5 schools each year).  Kansas School Board Member Kathy Martin and Kansas Commissioner of Education Diane Debacker are both visiting USD 224 and meeting with the teachers, staff, and students in order to learn more about the effective student learning and outstanding teaching going on at USD 224 Clifton-Clyde.  Congratulations to the students and staff at USD 224!
