College/Career Information

11/30/09

Mrs. Keim gave me an article from the Topeka Capital-Journal that showcased a young man who graduated from college with dual majors in music and economics.  He is currently a professional cruise ship musician, sailing thousands of miles across the globe – visiting places most of us only dream about.  He is having the time of his life AND paying off his college loans with amazing speed.

The reason I bring this to your attention is that sometimes you have to “think outside the box” to find or create a career that works for YOU.  Don’t be afraid to try something that hasn’t been done before in the world of work or college.

The entire article is on the bulletin board between the 2 offices’ doors.

Kansas City Art Institute

This 4-year college of art and design has announced the launch of a 4-track major in digital media.  Areas of concentration will include 3-D design and modeling, electronic game design art, motion graphics, and visual effects.  New for students who enter KCAI as freshmen in fall 2010, the digital media department provides students with fundamental skills, concepts, technologies and aesthetic principles related to professional practice in the four interrelated areas.

CSC has a unique program in Geoscience.  Geoscience includes all of the earth sciences:  geology, hydrology, meteorology, climatology, oceanography, even astronomy and geology of other planets.  Students who choose geoscience as a career will find opportunities solving problems that are critical for the function and comfort of society:  energy and water resources, environmental quality and hazard mitigation, weather prediction and modeling of climate change.

To learn more about CSC, go to their website at www.csc.edu and click on “visitors,” then “Request a Campus Visit.”  A short form will get it all set up.  You may also check out the geoscience website at www.csc.edu/geoscience
